Frequently Asked Questions - FAQs
What is specialty coffee and what makes Asante coffee different?
Asante Boutique Coffee Roasters is a specialtiy coffee roastery in Costa da Caparica that only works with beans scoring 84 points or higher on the SCA scale. Specialty coffee means traceable origin beans, cultivated and processed with rigorous criteria and evaluated by certified tasters. At Asante, we roast in small batches on a 7 kg electric drum roaster and measure the roast color and TDS of each batch, ensuring consistency in every cup.
Where is Asante located and what are the opening hours?
Asante is located at Av. Dom Sebastião 69E, 2825-407 Costa de Caparica, Portugal, just a few minutes from the beach. The cafe is open Tuesday to Friday from 08:30 to 17:30, Saturday from 09:00 to 17:30, and Sunday from 09:00 to 17:00; it is closed on Mondays. You can visit us to try our single-origin coffees, buy fresh beans, or pick up online orders.
Is the coffee freshly roasted? How often do you roast?
Yes. Asante roasts in small batches at its own roastery in Costa de Caparica, so the coffee you receive was roasted just a few days ago. We recommend a resting period of 7 to 10 days after roasting, and ideally consuming within the following 4 to 6 weeks to enjoy the peak aroma and flavor. Each package indicates the roast date for full transparency.
Can I buy coffee as whole beans and ground?
Yes. All Asante coffees are available as whole beans, and we can grind them according to your brewing method — espresso, V60, Chemex, French press, AeroPress, or filter machine. To preserve freshness and aromas, we recommend buying whole beans and grinding only at the time of preparation. If you prefer ground coffee, simply select the method in your order and we will adjust the grind.
How should I store coffee to maintain freshness?
To maintain freshness, store Asante coffee in an airtight container, away from light, heat, humidity, and strong odors. Avoid storing in the refrigerator or freezer after opening, as condensation can damage the aromas. Buy quantities that you can consume within 3 to 4 weeks and grind only the necessary amount each time.
What single-origin coffees do you sell and how do I choose the ideal one for me?
Asante selects single-origin coffees from excellent producers, with a menu that regularly includes Brazil (Cerrado Mineiro), Peru, Rwanda, Colombia (Huila), and Kenya (Nyeri). Each origin has a distinct profile — from the sweeter, chocolatey coffees of Brazil to the more fruity and floral notes of Rwanda and Kenya. If you don't know where to start, tell us what you usually enjoy (sweeter and milder, or more acidic and aromatic) and our SCA-certified team will help you choose; on the online store, you'll find tasting notes for each product.
Do you ship? Where to and how long does delivery take?
Yes, Asante ships its coffees through its online store asante.coffee. We deliver to mainland Portugal [confirm if also islands / European Union], with dispatch within [X working days] after roasting to ensure freshness. Shipping costs and delivery times are calculated at checkout, depending on the destination.
What brewing method do you recommend to get the most out of the coffee?
Asante roasts versatile coffees that work well with various methods, but each origin shines more in some than in others. To enhance sweetness and body, we suggest espresso or French press; to highlight acidity and floral and fruity aromas — common in our African coffees — we recommend filter methods such as V60 or Chemex.
What does "Asante" mean and what is your connection to Africa?
"Asante" means "thank you" in Swahili, a tribute to gratitude (suppliers and customers) and the African roots that inspire the brand, including the South African heritage that is at our origin. This connection is reflected in the selection of excellent African origins — such as Rwanda, Ethiopia, and Kenya.
Do you supply coffee to cafes, restaurants, offices, or events?
Yes. Asante supplies specialty coffee to cafes, restaurants, offices, and events, with small-batch roasting tailored to each client and the support of our SCA-certified team. For wholesale partnerships, training, or event orders, please contact us by email or visit us in Costa de Caparica.
