Climate change could (already are) spell disaster for coffee, a crop that requires specific temperatures to flourish and is highly sensitive to a range of pests. So scientists are racing to develop more tenacious strains of grain for one of the world's most beloved beverages.
Coffee is not ready to adapt to climate change without help. Climate change will pose problems for most crops. But coffee is particularly vulnerable, scientists say, because it has an unusually shallow gene pool.
